Van Horebeek 8th overall in Swedish Motocross GP
Sweden hosted the 9th round of the MXGP series this weekend at the Uddevalla track about 100km north of Gothenburg. The blue sky's and high temperatures on Saturday had to make room for rain and cold on Sunday's race day. The mixed weather conditions made the track slippery and one lined so as a result it was a real challenge to pass riders on this tricky track.
The team Champ/KTM rider, Jeremy Van Horebeek, was looking forward to this GP but the weekend didn't go as well as he wanted to. The Belgian youngster qualified in 5th which still gave him a good pick at the gate for Sunday's races.
Things started off well in the first race with a 6th position start but after the first downhill a lot of traffic came together in the sharp corner and "The Jerre" lost a few places. Coming around in 10th after the first lap it was soon obvious that the teenager wasn't riding in the comfort zone. Van Horebeek tried everything to find the good rhythm and kept fighting throughout the entire race. The checkered flag waved the KTM rider through in 9th place.
In the second race of the day Van Horebeek started just outside the top ten. Once again Jeremy had a tough race with gaining and loosing a few place. This time he had to be satisfied with the 11th position and claiming 8th place in the overall of the day. In the championship Van Horebeek gained one place and climbed up to 9th , only 12 points away from 7th.
" Last year I had a good race over here but for some reason I didn't feel confident throughout the weekend. I never found the right rhythm and kept struggling with the slippy track. It was a tough GP for me but I am happy I was able to score a top 10 place again and take home some valuable points. Also a positive is that I was feeling physically strong and this gives me good hopes for the future GP's."
Next MX Grand Prix will be raced in Nellspruit, South Africa on July 20.
